1000 Litre Short Slimline Water Tank
Here's what this tank is, and what the word "short" really means. It holds 1,000 litres, which equals roughly five to ten ordinary garden water butts. The body is narrow like other slimline tanks, but it stands lower than most. That makes it easier to fit in spots where a tall tank simply won't go.
What people use it for
Low spaces are the main reason people choose the short version. A garden shed, porch, or lean-to often has gutters sitting quite low. Rainwater flows downhill, so the tank's inlet must sit below the gutter outlet. A shorter tank can solve that problem without any clever plumbing or extra pumps. Gardeners use the stored water on beds, greenhouses, and pots through summer. Allotment holders and small growers use theirs in much the same way. Others use it for washing cars, rinsing tools, and cleaning patios.
The good points
A lower tank is easier to hide behind a fence, hedge, or low wall. The narrow shape keeps the footprint small, so it fits down a side passage. Lids sit at a comfortable height, which makes checking and cleaning much easier. Rainwater costs nothing, so your water bill drops during long dry spells in summer.
The honest bits
A shorter tank means a lower tap, so a tall watering can may not fit underneath. Standing the tank on a strong, level base gives you the extra height you need. A full tank weighs about one tonne, so soft ground or paving slabs won't cope. Roof water is not safe to drink, even when it looks clear. Check whether the tank is made for rainwater or for drinking water, since they are not the same. Many tanks arrive without a tap, filter, or downpipe kit, so check the box contents. Frost can damage a full tank, so leave some space inside through winter. Look over every tank on arrival, because scuffs and cracks happen in transit.
If you run a shop
Garden centres, builders' merchants, and farm shops sell these steadily, especially in spring. Plenty of customers have small gardens or low gutters, so a short tank answers a real question. Buying through a wholesale distributor usually brings your cost per unit down. You also get straight answers about size, fittings, and how the pallets are loaded. Tanks are light when empty but bulky, so ask about freight before ordering. Stocking both short and standard heights lets you cover most customers.
