0′ (6 m) HC Open Side i.e. high-cube side opening Container. The height of the container is about 30 cm higher than the standard 20′ Open Side Container. One long side of the container can be fully opened and it has double doors at the end walls.

20ft High Cube Open Side Container

Here's what this container is, so you know what you're looking at. It's a 20-foot steel container with a full-length door along one long side. High cube means it stands about a foot taller than a standard box. Outside, it measures roughly 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 9.5 feet tall. Inside, you get around 1,300 cubic feet of space, and most of one wall opens up.

What people use it for

A normal container only opens at one end, which makes the back hard to reach. An open side box fixes that, since you can walk or drive straight in from the side. Warehouses and shops use them to store pallets, because a forklift can load from the side. Pop-up bars, coffee stands, and market stalls like them too, since the side opens like a shop front. Workshops, studios, and gyms use the open side for light and easy access. Builders like them on site, since tools along the wall stay easy to reach.

The good points

You can reach everything inside, so nothing gets lost at the far end. The extra height gives you room for racking, shelves, or stacked boxes. Steel walls are tough, so the box handles weather and rough use well. Compared with a shed or a small building, it costs less and moves with you.

The honest bits

Side doors are a trade-off, so it helps to know what you're giving up. A big opening is more to secure than one end door, so check the locks closely. The doors also have more seals, and any gap can let rain or damp inside. Ask how the doors work, because some swing out while others fold up or slide. You also need clear space along the whole open side, or the doors can't open.

Open side units are slightly less rigid than closed ones, so ask about stacking limits. An empty 20-foot box weighs roughly 5,000 pounds or more, so it needs a firm, level base. Delivery needs a tilt-bed truck or crane, plus enough room to maneuver. Check local rules too, since some areas ask for a permit before placement. Ask whether it's new, one-trip, or used, because that changes price and condition. Look over the door seals, hinges, floor, and roof for dents, rust, or leaks.

If you run a business

If you run a hire firm, garden center, or site supply shop, these suit buyers who need easy access. Open side boxes usually sell for more than standard ones, and fewer shops stock them. Buying through a wholesale distributor usually brings your cost per unit down. You also get straight answers about condition, door type, and how units get delivered. Freight is the biggest cost with containers, so ask about it before ordering.

That's all we do really: tell you what we have, ship it, and let you decide.
